drinking the green kool-aid

Green kool-aid is how I like to describe the cult-like experience of raw food, or really any crazy diet. People always seem half-fascinated and half-horrified by my commitment to cleaning my colon, so I thought I'd share my experiences in excruciating detail. As with any train wreck, it's hard to look away. Nonetheless, I've managed to pick up some comrades along the way, as a result of my dear friends' curiosity and solidarity. Others interested in drinking the green kool-aid, holla.

day 2.

-- green shake: still no lecithin, so I used some frozen mango chunks to thicken up my soupy smoothie. It was pretty good.
-- 1 nectarine
-- salad with lettuce, spinach, tempeh (4 oz), mushrooms and radishes
-- 3 T. zucchini hummus (zucchini, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil) with 3 or 4 baby carrots
-- raw trail mix (1/4 c)
-- mrs. may's trio bar - blueberry flavor!
-- handful of soaked almonds and a handful of dried fruit (~1/4 c. of each)

I was really hungry during the day (or maybe a better word is unsatisfied) so most of my intake was before 5pm. By late afternoon I felt incredibly nauseous. Not sure if it was a holdover from last night or a fun wave of detox symptoms. I hope I feel better tomorrow!

Oh yeah -- I also had an unpleasant wretching episode with psyllium this morning. I guess I spoke too soon about it not being so bad. I tried mixing it with apple juice (thanks sgw!) which helped a lot, but I must not have stirred it enough because I managed to get a big dry lumpy explosion of psyllium in the back of my throat. Gross! I still love raw, but I do not wish this for any of you.

In other news, the FedEx man brought me a fancy new bike today! It's a very beautiful Terry Isis. Just taking it out of the box made me so happy I forgot how terrible I was feeling for at least an hour! I can't wait to ride her!
