drinking the green kool-aid

Green kool-aid is how I like to describe the cult-like experience of raw food, or really any crazy diet. People always seem half-fascinated and half-horrified by my commitment to cleaning my colon, so I thought I'd share my experiences in excruciating detail. As with any train wreck, it's hard to look away. Nonetheless, I've managed to pick up some comrades along the way, as a result of my dear friends' curiosity and solidarity. Others interested in drinking the green kool-aid, holla.

I'm ba-ack!

Since we last met, I went to a conference with all-you-can-eat soft serve at every meal, got pink eye, attended an event called "bacon fest" and another dinner that may as well have been called the same thing, and had a terrible case of strep throat. I've been on and off the wagon, to varying degrees. Each of these things has managed to provide some balance to my weight since, miraculously, between alternating bites of ice cream and bacon, and not being able to eat at all, I have only gained one pound since my official diet ended. Pretty good, if I do say so myself.

So, I'm currently weighing in at 124.5 pounds. My clothes fit better and I feel better. But I want more. As I have been eating more carbs (and granted, they are still very limited amounts of carbs) I have noticed my blood sugar crashes returning and my palate shifting back into sugar addiction. So, I'm am going to make a more concerted effort to take this thing back on again, for real. I'd really, really like to get down to 120 pounds and not panic when it's time for me to feed myself and too many hours have passed. Is this possible? Who knows, but we all need something to shoot for.

Honestly, I also just really like blogging every thing I eat. I find an odd pleasure in the monotony of it. I also love lists.

That said, it's passover and I'm going to a seder tonight. I need to eat some matzoh ball soup and some flourless chocolate cake. I will be back on the wagon starting tomorrow.

In preparation for my gluttonous evening, I have been super healthy today:

--egg plus one slice of cheese
--salad: lettuce, a few strips of bell pepper, a couple of radishes, 1 green apple, sliced fennel, and a handful of blackberries, topped with a yogurt-dill-parsley dressing. Pretty good. I also ate a small sausage, for some protein. Even better.

As a reminder, the goals are: no white flour, no refined carbs, no sugar, no white potatoes, beets, corn, or bananas. Only 2 (half-cup) servings of whole grains per day. Will limit dairy to 2 small servings a day, but man, I got really into milk last time, so we'll see.

Happy Pesach!
